Water crisis of today is a man-made crisis arising from extensive deforestation, inefficient and insistence on growing water-hungry cash crops and other inefficient, wasteful and environmentally polluting Industrial and Agricultural practices. The value of water should be recognized and its costs should be charged to the user. ‘Free’ ends up too costly.
Rain water harvesting, water conservation, water-recycling, proper valuation of water and charges for its supply, Reforestation, proper selection of crops, efficient use of water and development and application of advanced technology for water desalination and purification is the answer.
