CQ – must be discontinued after 6-8 weeks Krill Oil
Krill is a small crustacean, similar to shrimp, found in the colder waters of the oceans.
Supportive, but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
Krill oil is the best Omega-3 source for the following reasons:
Krill oil also contains some Astaxanthin (see below), but not enough to be really effective.
Note:
Take Krill Oil in lieu of fish oil supplements, as necessary and exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Avoid Krill oil for all under 18 years of age and for patients with a fish or shrimp allergy, or allergy to any other type of seafood.
Stop taking Krill Oil at least two weeks prior to any scheduled surgery or procedure. Swallow the Krill Oil capsule whole. Do not puncture or open the capsule. Do not take Krill oil if you are pregnant or having thyroid, diabetes, liver or pancreatic disease.
People with coagulopathy or taking anticoagulants or other medications should notify their physician prior to taking dietary supplements.
Spirulina – A super food:
Spirulina is a type of bacteria called cyanobacterium, which is often
referred to as blue-green algae. Algae is a rich source of plant DHA.
It contains high amounts of high quality protein with all the essential amino acids and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, B12, Vitamin C, D and E, (55 to 77 percent by dry weight) minerals, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium, calcium, chromium, phosphorous,
selenium, sodium, zinc and manganese, and small amounts of almost every other nutrient that we need.
This with only 20 calories, and 1.7 grams of digestible carbohydrates and a small amount of fats including both Omega-3 and Omega-6 in a ratio of 1:1.5 which means that gram for gram spirulina may literally be the single most nutritious food on the planet.
Spirulina has Powerful Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Properties and lowers LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels and has anti-cancer properties, especially against oral cancer.
It reduces Blood Pressure, improves Symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis, is effective against Anemia, improves muscle strength and endurance and helps with blood sugar control. In some cases, it has outperformed popular diabetes drugs, including Metformin.
Spirulina when combined with zinc may also have other beneficial effects, such as helping to “detoxify” the heavy metal arsenic from the body.
At the end of the day, spirulina is incredibly healthy. It is one of the few “superfoods” that are actually worthy of that term. However, it tastes ‘terrible’ and should thus preferably be taken as supplemental capsules.
