Citizenship can be acquired as a birthright or as a legal/ naturalized right. A born citizen is assumed to have a certain attitude, loyalty and commitment to the country. A naturalized legal citizen may or may not have a similar attitude or share equal loyalty and commitment to the adopted country. We need to understand such differences as may be applied in different contexts and be cautious about the rights accorded to them in various circumstances. After all to be 100 percent committed to an adopted country requires a 100 percent giving up of commitment to their country of birth. This then raises the question that , if a person can 100 percent give up their loyalty to the country of their birth, how can one be certain that they won’t as easily give up their loyalty to their adopted country? Also, does their birth country offer similar rights to those from our Country who seek to become citizens of that country as their citizens seek from India?
