The traditional Atkins’ Diet was certainly high fat, in the range of 70 percent or more, nearly all from animal sources, and with minimal dietary carbs, less than 10 percent. Today this is modified to include more fat (85 percent) moderate protein (up to 10 percent) and very low net carbs (5percent) Dr. Atkins, famed for his all-encompassing emphasis on ketosis during his early years as a diet doctor, insisted his patients routinely check the levels of ketone bodies in their urine several times a day, using special “ketone strips.”In his books and in working with his own patients, Dr. Atkins warned that to reap the benefits of his diet, one must reach and stay in a state of ketosis, much like the traditional Eskimos. Even a slight deviation from the diet, some ill-advised cheating with a cookie or candy, could stop ketosis in its tracks, and with it, the value of the diet. Today cyclic ketosis is considered to be better.
Cancer is not a disease of damaged DNA which is a downstream effect of mitochondrial dysfunction. As Dr. Rick Contrell, himself a cancer patient, writes –
“today it is beginning to be accepted that cancer is a metabolic disease that is best prevented and even cured by proper oxygenation and diet (including supplemental micro nutrients). Every person has cancer cells in their body, which may be triggered 6 to 10 times in a person’s life time. When the immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and becoming tumours.”
Many other doctors too are now treating cancer as a dietary condition, even as a deficiency of Vit-B-17.
According to the American Cancer Society and the American College of Oncology and Hematology, a successful cancer case means that a patient, who is treated by conventional methods i.e. surgery, radiation or chemotherapy, survives for 5 years thereafter. However, both these institutions also note that a person is likely to survive cancer for 7 to 10 years even if they do absolutely NOTHING. Chemotherapy fails in 97 percent of cancer patients and today it is recommended that it be only used as a treatment in rare and specific cases. Surgery and radiation treatment carry their own risks and the benefits of such treatments need to be evaluated more carefully.
Calls for regular screening, with its increased risk of radiation and false positives and false negatives is really something to avoid in most cases. Today, improving technology allows detection at a much earlier stage, thus giving an erroneous impression of longer survival rates. However, the mortality rate from the date of recognition of overt and recognisible symptoms still remains the same.
Non-conventional or alternate medical treatments track record of curing cancer is 10 times better than that of conventional treatment even if much of such evidence is anecdotal or personal. There is too much of such evidence to ignore and even the prestigious Johns Hopkins institution is weighing in on its side.
A cancerous growth, a tumour, is just a symptom and not the cause, remove the cause and the effect disappears. Lack of oxygen is thought to trigger the cell to either regress to a stage where it can grow more blood vessels or learn to grow in an anaerobic environment. Such cells can also grow into tumours in a wrong nutritional environment
Does alternate medicine work all the time? NO, of course not. Nothing works all the time. But there is a reason for that. You don’t die until it is time for you to die and nothing can make you live beyond that time and there has to be some final cause or system failure, that is then nominated the cause of death. However, the quality of life becomes a consideration. In many instances, those patients who go for alternate therapies, still die from their illness, yet they seem to experience a much higher quality of life than those who undergo radiation or chemotherapy or both.
When a person has cancer, i.e. the cells have multiplied to a detectable level, it indicates the person has nutritional deficiencies, which could be genetic but also be due to environmental, food and life style factors. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet to eat more adequately and healthily, 4 to 5 times a day, and by including supplements, will strengthen the immune system.
An effective way to battle cancer, says Johns Hopkins, is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
