CANCER AND DIET

Hilights

Book-2: Guide to Total Wellness -1.0

Cancer cells feed on:

Sugar and sugar substitutes and fructose are to be avoided as cancer feeds on them. (See – ‘Artificial’ and ‘Natural’ sweeteners in the Diet). Table salt has a chemical added to bleach it white. A Better alternative is sea or rock salt. Cancer needs glucose and insulin to thrive. Carbs are easily converted into glucose hence for treating cancer, net carbs should be reduced to about 12 gms per day and the total calories consumed also reduced.

Milk is acidic and causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucous. By cutting off milk and other dairy products cancer cells will be starved.

Cancer cells thrive in an acidic environment. Though it is arguable that diet effects blood acidity and that a meat based diet is acidic, it is best to eat fish, and only a little other meat, like chicken for essential proteins. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer. Today, it is recognized that it is the cancer that creates the acidic environment around it.

A ketogenic diet made of 85 percent calories from fats, 10 percent from proteins and 5 percent net carbs is the best. About 20 percent can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices (from most vegetables including bean sprouts) provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 400 C. Also eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. A little fruit may also be alright but as cancer cells find fructose, the sugar from fruits, even more metabolizable than glucose and thus proliferate more, little fruit really means little. (See ‘Benefits of Fruit?’).

Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. As for water it is best to drink purified water, or properly filtered water, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup, hence eat with care, chew thoroughly to help digestion.

Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from, or eating less, meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells. Adding payaya (Papain) and pine apple (Bromelin) to your diet helps. (See – ‘Non Conventional Treatments & Folk Remedies’). Low protein intake also tends to dampen the mToR path way that is often responsible for cell proliferation.

Some supplements build up the immune system to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells, Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

“… the majority of cancers could be metabolically managed through nutritional ketosis” – Dr. D’agostino. Cancer researcher Dr. Thomas Seyfried too believes that a ketogenic diet is therapeutically even more valuable in fighting cancer than chemo.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and the Ketogenic Diet.

The Ketogenic Diet significantly decreases blood sugar, slows tumour growth and increases mean survival time, and when combined with Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has even more significant anti-cancer effects. While hyperbaric oxygen therapy by itself did not influence cancer progression, when it was combined with the ketogenic diet, it produced a significant decrease in blood glucose, tumor growth rate, and a greater increase in mean survival time. Hence, this combination is now being investigated as a potential non-toxic and supplemental treatment for patients with systemic metastatic disease to increase survival time.

Abnormal cancer metabolism creates a glycolytic-dependency which can be exploited by lowering glucose availability to the tumor. The Ketogenic Diet (KD) is a low to very low carbohydrate, moderate protein, high fat, high fibre diet which decreases blood glucose and elevates blood ketones and has been shown to slow cancer progression. Abnormal tumor vasculature creates hypoxic pockets which promote cancer progression and further increase the glycolytic-dependency of cancers. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO2T) saturates tumors with oxygen, reversing the cancer promoting effects of tumor hypoxia. Since these non-toxic therapies exploit overlapping metabolic deficiencies of cancer, their combined effects were tested on cancer progression in a natural model of metastatic disease and found synergistic.

Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

Attitude:

Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness puts the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

For the non-conventional, traditional treatments for cancer prevention and even cure that deserve serious consideration. (See – “The Budwig Protocol and other treatment for cancer prevention and cure”).
