Municipal Rules for a New City – Recommendations

Conclusion

There is no point talking about Singapore or New cities in China, if we are not prepared to build and maintain our new cities to international standards. Perhaps even renovate our older cities. Proper and equitable property and other taxes and clear allocation of responsibilities must be implemented and enforced. Non-city politicians must not be allowed to interfere in Municipal matters.

Annexure

Amaravati – The proposed Capital City of Andhra Pradesh has the advantage of having large hills within its area and can hence, develop the largest of them into a real ‘Capitol Hill’ with the assembly building, the Secretariat and perhaps even the High Court on one such hill, with gardens and water bodies in between. Key Government buildings can be built along the road to the top of the hill. Proper skywalks and tunnels can connect all such buildings as deemed necessary. The Capitol Hill buildings will then be visible from all across the city. This concept will also, ensure better security. All cities should strive to make the best use of the geographical features and water bodies available at that location.

Amaravati is a capital city for everyone – but everyone also, has a responsibility to keep it clean and valuable – tendency to overcrowd, demand free space, avoid implementation of rules, leads to chaos and will soon devalue the city to the same or worse levels than other old cities.
