Conclusion

Such a ‘Krishi Jagruti’ scheme, with proper water harvesting, irrigation and soil conservation methods would definitely take advantage of the great percentage of arable land in our Country (49 percent versus 14 percent in China and 18 percent in USA) and of the almost year round farming our climate allows. It can also, take advantage of the extraordinary diversity of crops and plants in our Country and can be encouraged using the latest gene-editing techniques for better yields without the disadvantages of the present GM practices that use random ‘Shotgun’ techniques and end up with many negative traits and that also, have a terminator gene preventing the farmer from using his own seeds.

This would also, increase the incomes of all our farmers as shareholders in large profitable agro-enterprises.

It would also, help develop small towns and large villages into centres of prosperity.

Land, as a measure of wealth and as a means of security, can now be replaced by shareholding (equity) in such Agro-ventures which now becomes the ‘New Land’, a more effective, convenient and fungible measure of wealth and security.

This would lead to increased productivity, better utilization of resources including man power, better water management, better agro practices with, lesser or even nil use of chemicals thus leading to improved environment and greatly increased agro production, all to make India once again into an agricultural powerhouse.

1. Dr. D.B Desai’s work on locally genetically modified cotton seed.
2. Shri Viswanadha Raju of M/s Kravis Aqua has developed a Recirculating Aqua System (RAS) for Pisciculture and also, practices intensive Organic horticulture using minimal water..
3. Prof. G. V. Ramanjaneyulu of Abhinav Farmer’s Group encourages organic farming in Andhra & Telangana and setting up direct marketing under Sahaya Aharam project.
4. Shri Dhyaneshwar Bodke encourages Farmer Producer organizations for marketing.
5. Shri Nagratnam Naidu of Taramathipet Village, Telangana for encouraging innovative agri and horticulture for intensive cultivation using minimal water.
6. Downtoearth.org.in Multi-layer farming, organic farming for year round income using indigenous seeds and minimal water.
7. Akash Chauraseya in Sagar (M.P) encourages organic farming for year round income using indigenous seeds and minimal water.
8. Natural Farming as being promoted by Shri Subash Palekar and also Wg Cdr. Y V Krishna Rao.
9. Revival of Indigenous seeds for grains, fruits and vegetables encouraged by:
   • Shri Prabhakar of Haryalee Seeds
   • Shri Puneet Tyagi and Smt Neha Bhatia of the Prodigal Farms
   • Shri Ananthoo of Safe Foods Alliance
   • Organisations such as Bharat Beej Swaraj Manch and Sahuja Samridhu.
10. Improvement and enrichment of rice and wheat varieties and development of easy soil management and of pest protection using mud spray – Padmashri Chintala Venkata Reddy, Telangana.
11. Some of the Corporations /Companies using Artificial Intelligence/ Data management and automation of farm activities are as given below;
    1. Tartansense which promotes and provides automated robot services to replace manual labour.
    2. Aqua connect which works with shrimp and fish farmers to make better informed decisions about water quality, feed conversion ratio and other such parameters to improve quality and yield.
    3. StellApps which works with dairy farmers to improve the quality and yield of milk.
    4. Arya which provide safe warehousing.
12. Some Companies such as Mana Grama Bazaar Pvt. Ltd. setup by Shri J Durga Prasad work with innovative farmers and rural innovators to develop and encourage the use of their practices and innovations and organic products across the region.
