GOOD HEALTH & FITNESS

Book-2: Guide to Total Wellness -1.0

“Health is the thing that makes you feel that now is the best time…” – Franklin Pierce Adams

“Health is the vital principle of bliss, and exercise, of health” – James Thomson

“Fitness is not about being better than someone else… It’s about being better than you used to be” – Khloe Kardashian.

Our body’s natural state is health and not illness, even in old age, and it continuously strives to maintain itself in a state of healthy homeostasis, to maintain its stability even as it experiences stress. This capacity of the body is so pervasively effective until mid-life that we only realize its ability when we begin to lose it. All it requires from us to allow it to continue in a healthy state is to ensure that every cell in it receives adequate and proper oxygenation, hydration, rest and nutrition. To enable us to go about ensuring this, we need to properly understand each of these factors and how each is effected by its environment, our diet, our life style and then commit ourselves to support the body’s natural healing tendency by selecting appropriately the best ways to follow, with minimum effort, and build our life style around such a regimen, by eating right and living right.

Do not confuse
health with fitness

Do not confuse health with fitness. We will consider fitness separately. Do remember you inhabit a unique body and are in charge of it. This Guide informs you of the effects of the choices you make and encourages you to pick the right choices that best suits you and your body.

Good Health means having a body that is functioning properly with an immune system that satisfactorily resists the illnesses and allergies caused by routine exposure to common pathogens and pollutants. It is a properly functioning immune system that really determines our health.

Good Fitness means, having a body that is easily able to do all that we each need to do during the day without injury or undue stress and also that each of us ends-up with a body shape and condition that we each consider good for ourselves. Muscles and fat in the right proportion and in the right places as suits our body type.

We each need to work on getting from where we are now to where we want to be in the shortest time possible and with the minimum effort of – Diet – Supplements – Exercise

We each need to work on getting from where we are now to where we want to be in the shortest time possible and with the minimum effort of – Diet – Supplements – Exercise. Anything more than such a ‘Minimum’ would only be a waste of effort and time and may also lead to undesirable effects such as injury, stress and tiredness.

What is given below is such a regimen. To be followed fairly strictly till you reach your goal and that may then be relaxed as you deem convenient, but under constant self monitoring to remain, not at a specific weight or size, but within +/- 2 percent of that weight, or more importantly, the size and shape you deem desirable.
All this will come from following a right regimen of:

  • Diet – What you eat and drink, and when you do so and in what combinations, with a clear understanding that all dietary calories are not the same when it comes to their affect on your body and that only the source and quality of calories that go into your blood stream are what really count.
  • Supplements – are Vitamins, Medicines and even some Spices and Condiments that contain the micronutrients that you need to maintain your health and to boost your immune system. Some are safer than others, but almost anything will kill you at a high enough dose, even water or aspirin. It is the dose that makes anything a poison. Generally the recommended dosages are 1/ 100th or lesser than the lethal doses. The doses recommended herein have been deemed safe. However do consult your Physician, especially if you are on any medication or are pregnant.
  • Exercise – The breathing and movement system that you need to follow to keep every part of your body properly oxygenated and exercised, and which calls only for the minimum effort to be effective, to keep your mind and body as fit and flexible as required to allow you to meet your daily demands on each, and a schedule of some meditation for stress relief. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) reports that 85 percent of all disease has an emotional element which results in the over production of cortisol, the stress hormone, by the adrenal glands. Hence in addition to exercising regularly and getting enough sleep, meditation is also important.

You need to understand the effects of each of the above and then decide on the most effective proportion of each to best attain your goals.

The regimen given herein is designed on the basis of such an understanding, well grounded in today’s science while also being rooted in an understanding and recognition of traditional wisdom. It begins with a strict Low-Carb diet and the minimum effective exercise schedule to be followed strictly till you attain to your aim of reshaping the body and improving your health and then allows you to modify it by making the right choices based on the information given herein as best suits you, into a Low-Carb life time diet and wellness regimen that requires you to eat right and live right. You may then even consider following the Ketogenic life time diet. Do keep in mind that everybody has different needs, and that you will also have to keep adjusting your plan as you lose weight since your needs will also keep changing.
