The aim of having a common language is not to decry any local language, but to rationally arrive at the best way to allow communication across the Country and even Globally. Let us build on what advantages we now have than cry about what it could or should have been. Be Practical, encouraging ‘INGLISH’ and Hindustani with a common Roman script and, the Mother tongue / Local language each with its own script and, Sanskrit with the local phonetic script would be the best way. A FOUR language and a TWO script formula that starts with speaking from Play School level and writing from later classes, would be easier than the three script, three language formula as taught today, as it would be more acceptable to all since the Mother tongue / Local language has its due recognition, and would also, allow easier communication, both Nationally and Globally.
Today’s students may not even know that the alphabet of Indian languages is full of science. Each letter of the alphabet is logical and placed sequentially with precise calculations. Such a scientific view is not ingrained in the alphabet of other foreign languages. e.g;

क ख ग घ ઙ – This group of five is called kanthavya because the sound comes out of the throat while pronouncing this. Try pronouncing.
च छ ज ज ઞ – These five are called palate because the tongue will feel palate while pronouncing this. Try pronouncing.
ट ठ ड ઢ ण – These five are called Murdhanya because while pronouncing this the tongue will feel Murdhanya. Try pronouncing.
त थ द ध न – This group of five is called Dantavya because the tongue touches the teeth while pronouncing this. Give it a try
प फ ब भ म – This group of five is called Aushthavya because both the lips meet to pronounce this. Give it a try
We need to be proud of our Indian languages, understanding WHY and letting the world know too.
